This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the pencil and graphite in all it’s glory. The absolute joy of drawing this piece should be evident in the texture, shine and deep black pencil marks and shading.
Drawing is my favourite medium and using this 1cm squares technique inspired by a combination of digital pixelation to obscure a subject and the work of Chuck Close enables me to include an encrypted story or information about the image actually in the image.
Graphite is a crystalline allotrope of the element carbon. Graphite is used in many industries including refractories, lithium-ion batteries, foundries and lubricants.
