Scorching Day at Hoover Dam - Cup of tea?

Hoover Dam has fascinated me for years, since childhood in fact. It is a huge and extraordinary feat of engineering; it was built in the 1930’s at a time when ‘man’ firmly believed that nature could be tamed. The Dam is also on the State line between Nevada and Arizona, the two turbine rooms named for each State, have an other-worldly Art Deco look and design, and they are massive.

The Colorado river water flows through the turbines hundreds of feet below the top of the dam and generate electricity but also incredibly importantly Lake Mead, the lake created by the Dam is a source of water.

Hydropower is a renewable energy source that generates electricity by harnessing the kinetic energy of flowing water, making it environmentally friendly and sustainable. Conversely Hydropower can significantly disrupt ecosystems by altering river flows, blocking fish migration, and flooding habitats, which can lead to biodiversity loss and displacement of wildlife. Additionally, reservoirs can emit greenhouse gases from decaying organic matter, and the construction of dams often requires large amounts of carbon-intensive materials like concrete.
