The Gadget" was the code name for the world's first detonated nuclear device, tested by the U.S. Army on July 16, 1945, during the Manhattan Project. This implosion-design plutonium bomb was detonated at the Trinity site in New Mexico. The test confirmed the design for the "Fat Man" bomb used on Nagasaki. Wikipedia

This gives me the weirdest feelings of both excitement and utter dread; it is humanity at its worst. It is such a fascinating and compelling object, I steal a look and shivers go down my spine.
